Supply and Fit of Car Tyres

JB Rubber Corby stocks and has access to a vast range of tyres for all budgets. Just give us a call for some expert advice and get your car booked in.

What size tyre do I need?

We appreciate choosing the right tyres for your car can be confusing, from choosing the right size and then selecting a brand that fits your driving needs and budget. To get you started, check out your current wheels and “read the writing”; then give our tyre experts a call to help you decide.

Tyre size

The size of your tyre will be embossed onto the wall of your tyre and will be a series of numbers and letters as follows:

Tyre width: This is the first three digits, showing the width in millimetres side to side.

Aspect ratio/profile height: This is the next two digits which shows you the percentage of your tyre width ie. the height of your tyre for a 225/55R16 will be 55% of its 225mm width.

Radial: Radial tyres are manufactured with the cord plies positioned at a 90° angle to the direction of travel, giving the tyre extra strength.

Wheel diameter: The last two digits are the size of your wheel rim that the tyre gets fitted to, in inches.

If in doubt always check your vehicle handbook to ensure the right tyre size has been fitted or speak to our tyre experts.

What do I need to bring with me?

If you have locking wheel nuts fitted, please remember to bring your locking wheel nut key when you bring your car into the workshop to have a tyre fitted. We will need this key in order to remove the wheels from your car. Don’t know where it is?  The locking wheel nut key can usually be found in your glove compartment or with your spare tyre.

Check your tyres regularly

You use your car regularly; making a quick dash to the shop to grab something for tea, dropping the kids off to a dance class, back and forth to work and a longer trip to see the folks at the weekend.

It is so important that you regularly walk around your car and check your tyres over. Is there broken glass nearby that you may drive over? Does one tyre look lower than the other? Have you slightly damaged the wheel trim by accidentally mounting the kerb when parking?

Make it a regular habit to check your tyres regularly for general wear and tear, tread wear and correct tyre pressure. Better still, make an appointment with JB Rubber Corby to get all four tyres checked out along with your spare.
